High Voltage FMX as Sherwood Wins in London

New Zealand’s Levi Sherwood recharged London’s iconic Battersea Power Station on Saturday as he won the fifth stop of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour 2010 in the British capital. The 19-year-old kept a cool head in front of 30,000 fans packed into the former coal-fired power station as he threw down huge trick after huge trick with his inimitable style. Nate Adams (USA) and Dany Torres (ESP) took the remaining spots on the podium, while Tour leader Andrè Villa had to settle for a disappointing ninth place.

LONDON (UK). With the rain teeming down in London on Saturday night, it was only a question of time before the course began to cut up, leading to slippery run-ins and increasingly soft landings. “We couldn’t go right to the limit in the evening – it was too dangerous,” explained America’s Nate Adams, who took a strong second place. As all riders had benefitted from the same conditions on the dry course during Qualifying in the afternoon, it was decided that the result of that session should stand as the final result.

Despite the wet conditions, Battersea Power Station was sold out right down to the very last seat for an evening of spectacular FMX action. “The fans certainly fired up the old coal power station,” grinned third-placed Dany Torres (ESP). Crowd favourite Robbie Maddison, famous for his jump over London’s iconic Tower Bridge in 2009, could only finish in tenth place after falling hard during Qualifying.

In the overall standings Nate Adams (305 points) and Levi Sherwood (290 points) are closing in on current leader and Mexico-Champion Andrè Villa (310 points). “It’s insane,” commented Levi “Rubber Kid” Sherwood, who now lies only 20 points behind Andrè Villa. “I’m going to give absolutely everything at the last event to try and knock Villa off top spot.”

The final round of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour 2010 will be relocated to the Stadio Flaminio, famous for having hosted the 1960 Olympic Games and home of the Italian Rugby national team. This change grants a proper season final and a big show for the Italian fans, allowing an even bigger track and more fans to witness the final stage of the 2010 Series - but it also calls for an extra day and change of calendar. The final stop of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour will be held on October 2nd in the Stadio Flaminio, Rome.

Basel, 24th April 2010: World Championship fever in Basel – More than 6.000 spectators came to watch the FMX fight at the NIGHT of the JUMPs in St. Jakobs arena. Libor Podmol, who made it back to Europe just in time after his Mexico trip, flipped to victory, putting Rob Adelberg and Jose Miralles in 2nd and 3rd. NOTJ Basle podium

Switzerland felt the high temperature early on in qualifying. Petr Pilat, Alastair Sayer and Rob Adelberg had their problems under the pressure, Pilat had two deadsailors and Alastair crashed heavily on his last trick. So for both of them it was over after the qualifying. Adelberg had a deadsailor as well, but managed an extra trick in time along with an otherwise flawless run, so reached the final with 5th place qualification. Massimo Bianconcini, Jose Miralles, Brice Izzo, Libor Podmol and Brody Wilson joined him in the top 6.

In the finals all the athletes pulled out even more spectacular tricks. Massimo Bianconcini did a No-Hand Flip to 1-Hand Landing for the first time. Brice Izzo premiered a massive Can Underflip. Brody Wilson ruled with extreme airtime and the Tsunami Flip Indy in the Double-up, but he also missed a trick so the places on the podium went to Miralles, Adelberg and Podmol. The Australian rider was 2nd starter in the final and put together a near perfect run, debuting a Stripper Flip. The Spaniard was next and showed a massive Superman Seatgrab Flip in the Double-up. Both of them could not beat Libor Podmol this time out, as he was the only rider doing a Cliffhanger Flip and a his unique Underflip Indy.

Both the Whip Contest and Highest Air went to Massimo Bianconcini, while Brice Izzo won the Race & Style for the first time.

Adelberg wins 2nd day of the NIGHT of the JUMPs in Basel

Basel, 25th April 2010: On Sunday the Freestyle Motocross elite entered the St. Jakobshalle in Basel for the 4th contest of the NIGHT of the JUMPs / FIM Freestyle MX World Championship. This time Rob Adelberg from Australia did the best run and took the win. Brody Wilson and current World Championship leader Libor Podmol landed on 2nd and 3rd position.

Today all of the FMX riders had safe runs on the IFMXF track. Petr Pilat did hard flip combos, Lukas Weis made a massive Underflip and even Alastair Sayer had a good run after yesterdays crash. But all of them missed the final by a few points. So Rob Adelberg, Libor Podmol, Jose Miralles, Massimo Bianconcini, Brice Izzo and Brody Wilson made it in the next round.

In the finals the athletes pulled out even more spectacular trick premieres. Brice Izzo was debuting a 1-Hand Can Underflip and the spectators were stoked. But even with this trick the French rider did not make it onto the podium. Onto that Brody Wilson climbed after a sixth place he had in the qualifying. With a save run and lots of combo tricks he ended up on 2nd position. Libor Podmol invented the Switchblade Underflip. But this massive trick was only good enough for the 3rd place. The victory went to Rob Adelberg who mixed up hard backflips and a bunch of multiple trick combos. So the Australian rider reached his first victory in the FIM Freestyle MX World Championship series.

The Race & Style went to Libor Podmol, while Step up specialist Alastair Sayer won the Highest Air.

In the overall ranking of the FIM Freestyle MX World Championship it is closer than ever. Rob Adelberg and Libor Podmol are sharing the 1st place with 72 points each. Jose Miralles is on 3rd position with 54 points.
