Wake | Telekom Local Support Wakeboard Challenge

Water from below, water from above - and in the middle: Germany's best wakeboarder. 38 teams with a total of 76 riders started at the Telekom Local Support Wakeboard Challenge at the Turncable in Thannhausen/Germany to show some excellent riding - no matter the sometimes very heavy rain. And their commitment was rewarded: right on time for the finals the clouds opened up and the sun came out.

Podium Telekom Local Support

Maybe inspired by the bright evening light, the „Pokovec and Georgii GmbH & Co KG“ made it to the top of the podium and finished first place in the Pro class rating. Felix Georgii and his slowenian team partner Robert Pokovec showed off the best runs of the day and were the happy winners of a new UNIT Parktech kicker for Felix‘home cable in Blaichach. „Hamburg’s Finest“ Tom Richter and Frederic von Osten barely missed the first place but whoever knows the two: they will make very good use of the 2nd place prize – a Telekom Local Support BBQ Party worth 500 €.
The amateurs also knew how to rock the Turncable! Team „Pusteblume“ with Lasse Maas and Bastian Brüggemann impressed the judges with some great moves and took home the first place followed by Guido Winter and Thorsten Bernecker's team „Durchschnitt“ and Marijan Mustac/Hendrik Janssen's team „Becks Gold to Blind“ who all had massive smiles on their faces when they took home their goody bags filled with Pro-tec, Oakley, Fiat Freestyle Team and newschnitzel stuff.

But the Telekom Local Support Wakeboard Challenge was not just about prizes within the team rating but also about the qualification for the Telekom Extreme Playgrounds in Pinneberg on August 29th, 2010. The best amateur and pro rider made it and will now have to go against some of the world's best riders. The 15 years old rookie Miles Töller from Dortmund and the 17 years old Felix Georgii blew everyone away with some hardcore tricks and tons of style. They will now have to prove themselves again, this time in front of 6000 spectators at the Waterski-Arena in Pinneberg .

Wake | Wake the Pool 2010 results

This past weekend the european wakeboarding community gathered at Leipzig „Beach and Boat Show "for „Wake The Pool" the first International CWWC Indoor Wakeboard and Wakeskate Contest in its kind.

86 riders from 6 countries Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Polen and Great Britain took part in the categories Wakeboard Open Men, Wakeboard, Open Ladies  and Wakeskate Open Men.

Although a lot of people where sceptic at the beginning. The setup, a  2 Master Cableway „BrointheBox” combined with an Obstixx Kicker and Funbox and a 55 by 12 meter pool worked perfect!  Riders could start very quick and that showed itself during the competition in a swift timetable. For all it was a new experience. Most riders had to find there what could be done and what not. So the free training on Friday and the qualifications on Saturday where primarily used to test what was possible.

And that made the Semi-finals extremely exciting, because no rider had actually been able to do a consistent training so there where no concrete favourites. It was from time to time simply a real gambling, who gets a good run and who not.

Because of the amount of riders(86) everybody started on a narrow time schedule which made the competition all the more breath-robbing for spectators, riders judges and organisation.

In the Open Men Category Wakeboard, Sebastian Thums( GER)  had his day and went straight through the finals with two super runs.

Nico Lerchenfeld ( GER) did an Ollie on Table to Nose press and a Ollie to FS Lip slide down the A-frame, Marvin Kalter ( GER) hat a massive 360 Transfer and FS 5, Freddy von Osten ( GER) showed a 270 Transfer blind out and FS 5, Miles Töller ( GER) showed a nice 50-50 Tail press to FS Board slide and Whirly Bird, in the end Manuel Rupp ( GER)  throwed in an extreme high FS Board slide and gapped himself with a FS 5 in the Semi-final.  Mike Ruttkowski ( GER) landed the only BS 5 of the weekend and also entered the final.

Benny Sae Chong ( GER) sticked a Toe side Transfer on the A-Frame and Niko Kasper showed a nice 7 but unfortunately both did not reach the finals.

In the finals all riders pumped themselves up once again, but it was Sebastian Thums who had the most control of all. His run was so good that he impressed all other riders. He started with a High and clean Transfer 360 over the Funbox followed by a massive off - Axis 3 almost reaching the top of the hall and took 1st place.

Nico Lerchenfeld took the 2nd place with a 360 Gap and a TS Roll to Revert. Young gun Miles Töller, took 3rd place with a Front board down the A-frame and landed a perfect executed Whirly.

Rank Name Points Country
1 Sebastian Thums 61.00 GER
2 Nico von Lerchenfeld 58.00 GER

By the Wakeskaters it was Dominik Preisner ( GER)  who was the best of the pack. With a clean 360 Shuvit on Shuvit off the Funbox Table and again a clean 360 Shuvit off the kicker he took 1st place. Closely followed by Kevin Cobb from (Aus) with SWITCH FS Big Spin and TS BS 180 over the kicker and took 2nd place. Tim Schwiertz sticked in the final a “Jimbo Christian air” and took 3rd place.

2 Kevin Cobb 50.67 AT
3 Tim Schwiertz 49.00 GER

In the Open Ladies Wakeboard Category there was a big surprise, Maxine Sapulette(The Netherlands), which landed Whirly after whirly in training, was not consistent during her final runs and became 5th. Sophie Cordery (United Kingdom) showed a beautiful transfer to BS Lip slide with monster speed on the Funbox and ended with another perfectly stood Tantrum, and took 1st place.

It was very nice to see that Denise de Haan (The Netherlands) has fought her way back into the competition after a long and painful knee injury to everybody's surprise see took 2nd place. Mona Stenzel, took 3rd place with a nice Nose press and a high, clean FS 360.
