Location: Freestyle.berlin is sure to satisfy nostalgic longings: all those metal birds that darted the skies of Airport Berlin-Tempelhof prior to October 30, 2008 will be replaced in October 2009 by daredevil freestylers shooting for the stars. Not only is this former airport centrally located and directly accessed by Berlin‘s U-Bahn (rapid transit railway) and bus lines, it is also steeping in history: exactly 100 years ago, Orville Wright’s first record flights and shows were astounding audiences at Tempelhof Airport. In 1923, Tempelhof was one of the first commercial airports to be put into operation in Germany; its first flight in 1926 was headed right for the place of freestyle.berlin’s origin – Zurich! During the postwar period of 1948 – 1949,Tempelhof was stage to the historical airlifts and ‘Candy Bombers’ [German: Rosinenbomber]. And now, just up ahead, another historical moment awaits this location – only one year following Tempelhof’s shutdown, freestyle birds will take to the skies and dazzle the crowds!
