Austria’s first ever mass downhill – 500 starters already registered! Spectacular bike action with the who’s who of the international freeride scene at the premier of the Dakine FREERIDE Festival powered by Nissan from 9 to 11 July in Saalbach Hinterglemm.
SCOTT GANG BATTLE is the name of the mass downhill event that will amaze spectators and competitors alike on all three days of the festival, forming the undoubted high point of the festival. The Scott Gang Battle is Austria’s first downhill race with a mass start. In the qualification rounds, pro’s and amateurs will start from the top of the Schattberg in gangs of 30 riders. The course covers a distance of 8 kilometers to the Schattberg X-press ski lift station in the valley, an altitude difference of about 1,000 meters. Around 500 riders have already registered for this unique race. All users can also try out the 20x20x4 m meter air cushion from Bagjump as a soft landing option for practicing their bike tricks. In the YT Best Trick Award powered by Bagjump.com the competitors must compete in a series of heats in order to qualify for the showdown on Saturday. The Marzocchi Airstrike competition is guaranteed to take your breath away. The Marzocchi Airstrike is an “urban slopestyle competition” for professional freeriders. The course starts in the center of Hinterglemm on the roof ridge of a hotel, when the riders jump from the roof to the neighboring building. Wallrides, a jump into the riverbed and monster-kickers are the highlights of this course designed by professional freeriders Joscha Forstreuter and Pierre Edouard Ferry, who have already designed the adidas Slopestyle, FISE Slopestyle and Chatel Mountainstyle courses. This is bound to be a spectacular competition because in terms of the course alone, it is very different from the run-of-the-mill freeride competitions, and can be viewed in its entirety by the spectators. Man against man: in the manner of a “Modern Western Shootout”, the Maxxis Dual Eliminator pits two riders against each other. As in the old westerns, only the fastest can survive the “Maxxis Dual Eliminator”. Youngsters aged from six to 15 will have a chance to try out the Maxxis Dual Eliminator slalom course in the Kids FREERIDE Challenge starting on Saturday at 2.00 p.m. with two sessions. Rose (rose.de) has organized a very special side event for everyone who can control their bike even on just the back wheel (or who would like to learn). However, before the participants themselves get going on their back wheels in the “Rose Speedwheelie Contest”, they should listen to the advice of Bobby Root, the king of the wheelie riders. The world record holder in speed wheelie riding will hold a number of workshops to offer participants some important tips and tricks before they hit the road. The centerpiece of the festival is the exhibition with over 50 well-known exhibitors and 70 brands from the freeride and bike scene. As well as admiring all the new products, visitors will also have the opportunity to try them out for themselves. A cool freeride event also requires cool riders and real men. Among others, festival visitors can look forward to seeing Thomas Vanderham, Amir Kabbani, Geoff Gulevich, Wade Simmons, Richie Schley, Bobby Root, Tibor Simai, Timo Pritzel, Rob J and many more. However, visitors will not only have the opportunity to meet with their heroes at the daily autograph sessions, but will also be able to accompany them on one of other of the unforgettable tours we have organized!
